CARNATIONS, 2020 was a commission for The Botanical Mind Online 27 July - 9 August 2020, the next in Leung’s institutional florals series. Positioning a camera at floor level, the live stream footage showed the interior of Gallery 1 while it was closed to the public. The space was vacant apart from sporadic preparation for The Botanical Mind exhibition. This reduced, anticipatory, activity speaks to the different speeds of living and forms of private life that we’ve been encountering through the pandemic.

"Oblique-angled low-slung shot, tilted in from a corner and facing out into the room, which, itself, is lit from the ceiling, and is also, at points, unlit. Visible, several squared cut outs into the surface that pass coloured white, blue, yellow light over the surface of the floor slow and repeating. At indeterminate times one square shifts colour from the others. An off line of floor to wall join, lower quarter and bowed grey below, white above, while unlit lighting tracks, their power source cleaved into tiny channels, cut upwards to terminate in vertical planes."
